The only reason why I noticed Last in Netflix is that the leading lady was from the series, Moorim School. I want to watch more of her as I really liked her cutesy aura. It was fun to see another character from Moorim School playing one of the leads in Last as well. To be totally honest, if not for the 2 celebrities in the series, I wouldn’t even dare to watch Last. It doesn’t seem to be the type of drama series that I would want to watch. However, after finishing it, I realized that it wasn’t bad at all! It is a deep series rooted from family, revenge, loyalty, love and friendship. It’s a cut-throat type of setup but it will make us reflect on our own thoughts and decisions.
Last (2015)
A hotshot fund manager ends up homeless when his stock plan fails. He discovers there is a secret ranking system and must learn to survive in the streets.
I’m not a big fan of the love team of Tae-Ho and Na-ra. They just don’t have that kind of chemistry. But I’ve been rooting for the love of Mr. Ryu and Mi-Joo all throughout the show.
This is rare for me but I was cheering more for the 2nd leads than the lead character. I loved Mr. Ryu, Mi-Joo and even the bad guys such as Hyung-Sam and Mantis. I wish Last delved more on the background of Mantis. His immense loyalty to Hyung-Sam is just rare and I wish we understood why he was like that to his master.
Main lesson and takeaway for me here is that we all have our inner demons. Are we going to feed the one that will make us powerful but eventually forget to be human? Or are we going to feed the goodness in our hearts and help the people around us and fight evil?
Last is an action-oriented K-drama. Despite me not being a huge fan of fist-fight focused films, I love the camaraderie, the fierce loyalty between brotherhood, the giving up on one’s life to save others and the lesson that revenge is not good for our soul. Revenge destroys us in the end.
